Flowers 1 - Summer 2024
Flowers at yaytso gallery featured many flowers and the beautiful paintings of Remi Frog
It was a silly day where people lingered in the space tripping out on the moving flowers and even making their own with the lily generator. See all of the creations here
One one wall there were 7 flower posters featuring their own deforum animation. Each poster was a generated lily wheatpasted onto a board to help bring it to life. People could see the flower take new forms by looking at the posters through their phones using the 8th Wall or iOS augmented reality app designed and built specifically for the show.
On the other wall were three original oil paintings by Remi Frogo. Remi had spent the past few months both helping built the visual identity of yaytso gallery and practicing her painting craft. Her ideas were generally fluid and of the moment when it came to her pieces. Once she knew the composition and character of her painting she would realize them in lightning speed, converging on the refinements that would brighten the mysical realism of each concept.
Her three paintings featured mirrored lambs, a mirrored depiction of herself, and two lovers holding hands. Each painting had a deforum animation like the flowers, but these followed various concepts as each one decomposed. The practice of collaborating with Remi and bringing her paintings to life was one that was incredibly fulfilling and beautiful. It is hard to say whether the ai animations brought her paintings to life or if her paintings brought the ai to life, or both I suppose.
Perhaps the most compelling experience of the show was viewing it through the Vision Pro. The visuals were the same, but being full immersed in the Vision Pro allowed one to ease into the space instead of the effortful nature of squinting through your phone screen. It was also hilarious to observe other people dive into the wonderment of the Vision Pro, for better or worse it does really take you out of reality for a moment. Honestly, I think the experience is so distinct that it makes the real world that much sweeter while taking a look at a new layer of it for a moment.
Lastly, in between Remi’s paintings was the yaytso logo that Remi had designed. If you looked at it through the same AR experience that brought the flowers to life, you see your own unique flower animation. Here is my flower for example. Each attendee was also given a random amount of points to level up their flower and the ability to claim it as a NFT. Where will this lead to next? Who the hell knows.
